Our Church
A church family in New Albany, Indiana, seeking to reach the lost and strengthen believers since 1974.
Our Mission
God first loved us and gave His Son, Jesus Christ. By preaching and teaching the inerrant Word of God, sharing the love of Jesus, through prayer, and by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, Calvary Road Baptist Church will:
Glorify God
By building up, encouraging, loving, and caring for one another, worshiping together in the unity of the Holy Spirit, and taking a biblical stand in our community.
Evangelize
By proclaiming salvation and repentance through Jesus Christ at home and abroad, seeking to minister to all people, and presenting the gospel to win the lost.
Disciple
By baptizing, exhorting, and teaching believers, equipping them for spiritual growth and service, and helping each person develop his or her gifts.
Our History
On December 4, 1974, a group of 20 believers began holding Bible studies in the home of Hirstle and Bernice Henson on Charlestown Road. A short time later they moved into a small building on Market Street in downtown New Albany. On September 7, 1975, they called their first pastor, Wade Sheffield, and were organized as Grace Baptist Church, a work sponsored by Grace Baptist Temple in Salina, Kansas.
God blessed the young church under Pastor Sheffield's leadership. From there the congregation moved to the corner of 15th Street and Beeler, and later to a small building on Oak Street. On May 4, 1986, dedication services were held in the church's current building at 3795 Saint Joseph Road, and the church later took the name Calvary Road Baptist Church.
On March 4, 2007, Pastor Sheffield retired and Pastor Mike Kleitz became the second pastor of Calvary Road Baptist Church. On September 7, 2008, the church opened its new Family Fellowship Center, and on September 2, 2012, that center was renovated to house the growing worship sanctuary.
Many faces have changed over the years, but the purpose of this church has not. We are still seeking to reach lost people and strengthen Christians. Join us as we attempt great things for God and expect great things from God.
